Manchester United CEO Richard Arnold has good reason to describe the Premier League club's alliance with Adidas as a "powerful partnership".

The sports brand and the 20-time English champions in July 2023 signed the most lucrative agreement in football history to extend their deal until 2035.

The German company began working with United during the 1980s and resumed the relationship in 2015/16 after a 23-year break.

How much is the deal worth and what are the sums involved for top-flight English clubs and their kit providers? The Sporting News examines some of the figures.

Adidas Manchester United contract: How much money is it worth?

Manchester United's new supplier contract is worth a record-breaking £900 million ($1.2 billion) – and Adidas CEO Bjorn Gulden described his group as "extremely proud" of it.

"Adidas and Manchester United are two of the most important brands in international football and it is very natural for us to continue our co-operation," Gulden said.

The agreement will allow each side to "combine tradition and innovation to please both the players and the fans", Gulden added.

Arnold was also enthused. “The relationship... is one of the most iconic in world sport, forged through a shared commitment to style, flair and, most importantly, high performance," he declared.

The previous deal was worth around £750m ($964.7m).

Premier League kit deals rankings

United's previous contract with Adidas was already the most lucrative of its kind ever agreed in football even before the heavy increase.

Unsurprisingly, the highest Premier League earners from kit suppliers are the teams known as the 'Big Six', with serial champions Manchester City nearest to United, while Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea have also reportedly agreed hefty contracts.

There is then a steep drop-off to the other big-hitter, Tottenham, according to TotalSportal, which points out how the value of kit supply deals for all the teams below Spurs combined falls substantially short of each of the top five in the rankings.

Premier League kits 23/24: What is the average supply deal worth?

Manchester United's new deal and any other new agreements are almost certain to make the average Premier League kit supplier deal worth more than £20.2 million ($26m).

There could be notable hikes in supplier-related income for newly-promoted sides Burnley, Luton Town and Sheffield United. For example, the Blades' deal with Italian company Errea includes more money depending on how many shirts are sold.

The average is far higher than it is in the second tier Championship, where Sportcal says the average income from kit suppliers is £4 million ($5.1m) per season.
