Premier League best bets
Manchester United vs. Aston Villa
- Date: Saturday, Sept. 25
- Time: 7:30 a.m. ET
- TV: None
- Streaming: DAZN
First half under 1.5 total goals: 1.52
With Cristiano Ronaldo expected back, Manchester United may very well win this game, but Dean Smith's Aston Villa won't get run over, at least not in the first half. Between last season and this one, in the six road matches played against the big four (Man United, Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool) in all competitions, Aston Villa trailed 1-0 at halftime on three occasions, twice finished tied 0-0 at the break and had a 1-0 lead in the other match. Aston Villa's five-man backline should help once again limit the damage in the first half.
Everton vs. Norwich City
- Date: Saturday, Sept. 25
- Time: 10 a.m. ET
- TV: None
- Streaming: DAZN
Everton Asian Handicap spread -0.5: 1.64
Everton will be without Richarlison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Andre Gomes, its top three players when it comes to expected goals plus expected assists per 90 minutes (per FBref). That's not the ideal scenario when it comes to needing to solve a Norwich City team that will be in ultra-defensive mode in search of a first point after five straight losses to open the season. The goals won't exactly be flowing in this one, but Everton should be able to find the one-goal difference to take care of business.
Leicester City vs. Burnley
- Date: Saturday, Sept. 25
- Time: 10 a.m. ET
- TV: None
- Streaming: DAZN
First half under 1.5 total goals: 1.44
Of the 36 combined goals in matches across all competitions involving Leicester and Burnley, 28 have come in the second half (14 of 19 goals in Leicester matches and 14 of 17 goals in Burnley matches). The first half will be tight between two organized teams.
Watford vs. Newcastle
- Date: Saturday, Sept. 25
- Time: 10 a.m. ET
- TV: None
- Streaming: DAZN
Watford -0.25 Asian Handicap: 1.82
What else can go wrong for Newcastle? Now starters Joe Willock and Jamaal Lascelles are out injured alongside forward Callum Wilson. The trio are key cogs for the Magpies in each sector of the field. Watford doesn't have such problems and will likely sense an opportunity to capitalize and gain three key points against a direct competitor in the race for Premier League survival. If they can keep Allan Saint-Maximin under wraps, Watford should have enough quality to pull this one out. In case Watford is held to a draw, the -0.25 Asian Handicap gives you half your stakes back.
Leeds United vs. West Ham
- Date: Saturday, Sept. 25
- Time: 10 a.m. ET
- TV: None
- Streaming: DAZN
West Ham Asian Handicap Pick'Em: 1.67 (draw is push)
If the Hammers want to compete for a place in the top six this season, they need to show they're capable of handling a decimated Leeds side on the road. West Ham, which has performed well away from home this season, is virtually at full strength, and with new signing Nikola Vlasic fully integrated and forward Michail Antonio back from suspension, the visitors should have enough to get past Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds, which is missing several players: center back Pascal Struijk (suspension), forward Patrick Bamford (ankle) and Robin Koch (pubis). Other Leeds starters are also doubtful: Raphinha (hip), Luke Ayling (knee) and Jack Harrison (COVID-19 recovery).
Brentford vs. Liverpool
- Date: Saturday, Sept. 25
- Time: 12:30 p.m. ET
- TV: None
- Streaming: DAZN
Brentford +1.25 Asian Handicap: 1.75
Newly promoted Brentford has only one loss in this early season (a narrow 1-0 loss to Brighton), but it has won the expected goals battle in every match and it has shown it can be tough to break down (two goals conceded so far). But this is the first test against a title contender and Liverpool has been one of the most explosive attacks in the league. Playing at home, the Bees have the challenge of keeping this match close, as they have their previous ones. With the +1.25 Asian Handicap, half your bet would win in the case of a Liverpool one-goal victory. The other half would be refunded.
Southampton vs. Wolves
- Date: Sunday, Sept. 26
- Time: 9 a.m. ET
- TV: None
- Streaming: DAZN
Wolves +0.25 Asian Handicap: 1.68
These are two teams that haven't scored much so far this season, but they also don't get blown out of games. Southampton defends well; it held Manchester United and Manchester City to draws. Wolves haven't been as lucky; they deserved more from matches against the likes of Man United, Tottenham and Leicester City based on expected goals and the eye test. This should be a close game, but Wolves have the better attacking players who can decide it. They're due a breakout and the +0.25 Asian Handicap gives you half a push and half a win in case of a draw.
Crystal Palace vs. Brighton
- Date: Monday, Sept. 27
- Time: 3 p.m. ET
- TV: None
- Streaming: DAZN
Crystal Palace +0.25 Asian Handicap: 1.77
Brighton is the favorite on the road. This is a classic case of a club being overvalued based on recent results, an easier schedule and current league positioning (an impressive fourth). These two teams are more evenly matched than the seven points that separate them in the table. Brighton got the benefit of a couple of calls against Leicester City and pulled out a win at Brentford that could've easily finished in a draw. Its toughest competition in five matches has been Leicester City and Everton.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace's opening five games have been the first under new manager Patrick Vieira, and they also featured title favorites Chelsea and Liverpool (both 3-0 losses). Palace's play has improved with each passing game and top forward acquisition Odsonne Edouard is still getting his feet wet. The Monday night stage at home could bring the best out of Palace.
