Mauricio Pochettino continues to see a future role at Real Madrid mooted and former Tottenham star Christian Ziege can “definitely see it” happening at some stage.
For now, the hope is that a highly-rated Argentine tactician will stay put.
He is tied to a long-term contract and has been stating his full commitment to the cause once more after admitting over the summer that a Champions League triumph could have seen him move on.
The plan is that Pochettino will build on the European foundations he put in place last season, both at home and abroad.
If he were to do that, though, then further interest is likely to be attracted from afar.
Ziege, who spent three years in north London between 2001 and 2004, admits that calls from Madrid may prove difficult to turn down.
The ex-Germany international said, when asked if he could see former Espanyol boss Pochettino back in La Liga: “I can definitely see it.
“You always have to be careful since you don’t know what is just being discussed in the media and what is true.
“But Mauricio Pochettino proved what he is capable of last year.
“They did not buy a single player and went to the Champions League final.
“He developed the team incredibly and always finished amongst the top four in the Premier League.
“This was not always the case at Tottenham. That’s why I have a lot of confidence in this coach, even the biggest challenges.
“But, from what I’ve understood, in how he’s talked in the past, it’s that he feels very much at home where he is right now.”
Pochettino has seen his Spurs side stumble out of the blocks in 2019-20.
Just three wins have been taken from nine games across all competitions, with a spark required in the Premier League and Champions League.
Tottenham did get back to winning ways domestically against Southampton on Saturday and will have the chance to kick-start another continental campaign when they play host to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich on Tuesday.
Pochettino’s men will then take in a trip to Brighton before heading into the next international break.
