After Anthony Jackson-Hamel was fouled inside the New England 18-yard box in first-half stoppage time, Bernier stepped up to take the ensuing spot-kick. With his parents behind the goal ready to ring the bell that sounds after every Impact strike, Bernier made no mistake.

Bernier, 38, is retiring following the MLS season after a 17-year professional career. The midfielder started his career with the Impact back in 2000 before heading to Europe for several years. After stops in Norway, Germany and Denmark, Bernier returned to the Impact in 2012 as the team joined MLS.
With Montreal eliminated from the postseason, Sunday's regular-season finale is Bernier's final match as a professional before he transitions into a post-playing career. Unfortunately for the Impact, they could not send Bernier off on a winning note, as they ultimately fell 3-2 to the Revolution.
