Manchester United have built up a huge rivalry with numerous sides throughout their long history with Liverpool and Manchester City remaining their biggest foes.

However, the Red Devils have found themselves battling against Premier League teams from all over in recent years, with West Ham adding their name to the list.

David Moyes' frustrating spell in charge at Old Trafford has added an extra layer to their clashes in recent seasons as the Scottish coach attempts to prove his credentials against the best sides. He certainly did his resume no harm when he led West Ham to the UEFA Europa Conference League title in 2023.

These teams will meet again on December 23, with Man United struggling for consistency this season and West Ham reeling off the back of a 5-1 Carabao Cup quarterfinal thrashing by Liverpool at Anfield. So, who will recover quickest?

Man United vs West Ham head to head, all-time results

In 152 competitive meetings, Man United have a clear advantage over West Ham, with 73 wins compared to 47 defeats and 32 draws, stretching back to 1911.

West Ham won the first meeting between the two sides, a 2-1 victory in the 1910/11 FA Cup Third Round.

The Hammers then beat United again the the FA Cup in the semifinals on route to winning the tournament in 1964.

The pair remained First Division rivals for the majority of the following three decades, but United powered on to dominate the Premier League era, with 13 titles under Sir Alex Ferguson.

United fans will fondly remember their 7-1 Premier League win over West Ham in 2000 as Paul Scholes netted a hat-trick — and after Paulo Wanchope had put the Hammers ahead at Old Trafford.

Recent meetings have brought West Ham back into contention against United and they won their final ever meeting at Upton Park in 2016.

The Moyes factor is now a key feature to these games, with a 0-0 home draw with United coming just a week before the end of his first spell in charge of West Ham back in 2018.

Since returning to West Ham in December 2019, Moyes has managed just one Premier League win over his former employers in seven meetings. That was in May of of 2023.

West Ham won the Second Division in 1958 and 1981 but they have never won a top-flight league.

United have 12 FA Cups compared to West Ham's three, with six EFL/League Cups to West Ham's zero.

In Europe, the Red Devils have won a combined three European Cup/Champions Leagues, with West Ham winning the UEFA European Cup Winners' Cup in 1965 and the Europa Conference League in 2023.

Two of the highest-scoring matches between these sides have come in the Premier League era and both ended in United wins.

The 7-1 victory in 2000 is United's biggest league winning margin against West Ham, but the record for most goals scored in a clash is eight, after a 5-3 United victory at Upton Park in 2002.

United also won 5-3 at home to West Ham in a First Division game in 1960.
