Manchester United head into the Premier League transfer deadline day looking to potentially bring in one more player to Erik ten Hag's squad.

Ten Hag is eyeing last-minute left back options, with first choice Luke Shaw set for a period on the sidelines due to injury and Tyrell Malacia also out.

There is also a scramble to bring in some more midfield cover given their early-season struggle for form and the loss of Mason Mount to injury, while a new back-up goalkeeper has arrived to replace Dean Henderson, who has signed for Crystal Palace.

United have significantly strengthened this summer, with key acquisitions including Andre Onana, Mount and Rasmus Hojlund, as David de Gea, Fred and Phil Jones have exited Old Trafford.

The Sporting News takes a look at United's deadline day plans as the Premier League summer window prepares to slam shut.

Who are Man United signing on transfer deadline day?

Ten Hag appeared to have completed the majority of his business but there are some emergency deals that were concluded on deadline day.

Around five hours before the deadline, United announced the signing of Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham — one of two key bits of business they were hoping to do.

Ten Hag has been eager for an emergency left-back signing due to Luke Shaw's recent injury proving more serious than first thought. With Shaw and Tyrell Malacia potentially both out until December, United are suddenly looking light on the left of their defence.

As per reports from journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea outcast Marc Cucurella was a potential option and it appeared he was United's preferred loan signing. However, with Chelsea asking for a loan fee and not willing to include a break clause in the deal — one that would allow United to terminate the loan in January — the Red Devils turned the attention elsewhere. A deal for Reguilon, one more in keeping with United's wishes, is now completed.

Midfield has also been on Ten Hag's mind. United looked lightweight in their first three league games of the season and the loss of Mount to injury, combined with Kobbie Mainoo being out until October and Donny van de Beek expected to follow Fred out of the exit door, left them wanting reinforcements.

Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat has long been linked with the club but it seemed he was simply one player on a shortlist; indeed, the Manchester Evening News said much of United's reported interest had been drummed up in Italy. However, things changed in the final days of the window, and the Morocco World Cup star was announced as a loan signing shortly before the deadline.

"It is a huge honour to become a Manchester United player," Amrabat said after spending much of the window waiting and hoping for a move to Old Trafford. "I've had to be patient for this moment but I'm someone who always listens to my heart and now I am representing the club of my dreams."

Earlier, United announced the signing of goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, who arrives from Fenerbahce for a little over £4 million / $5 million. With Dean Henderson having been sold to Crystal Palace for an initial £15m/$18.9m, this represents solid business for the Red Devils, who have replaced a back-up goalkeeper and generated some funds.

In a blast from the past, Jonny Evans has also signed a deal until the end of the season. The centre-back was on a short-term contract with his old club during preseason but Ten Hag decided he wanted to keep the 35-year-old as cover in defence. Evans, an academy graduate at Old Trafford, won three Premier League titles during his first spell at the club, in which he made 198 senior appearances.

Who are Man United selling on deadline day?

Goalkeeper Dean Henderson has already signed for Crystal Palace but there could be further movements for United before the window closes.

Under-21 defender Teden Mengi has finalised a transfer to Luton Town, while fellow youngster Marc Jurado has returned to Spain with Espanyol for what has been described as a nominal fee, although his contract reportedly contains a significant sell-on clause.

In the senior team, United are still trying to offload Donny van de Beek and there is said to be some interest from Luton in a late deal. They also hope to sell Eric Bailly.

There is also interest in Mason Greenwood, who has been told to find a new club after United opted against bringing him back into the first-team fold following a huge backlash from supporters.

Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire, who were the subject of interest from clubs earlier in the window, are now expected to stay.

Ten Hag's summer plans have included strengthening the spine of his team and solving the question of de Gea's long term replacement and adding more goals to his squad.

Onana has impressed as the new No.1, but Hojlund's injury issues have delayed his debut, as United fans wait to see their new striker in action.
