There will be much scrutiny of Manchester United in preseason as the Erik ten Hag era gets underway.
United endured a woeful 2021/22 campaign as they finished in sixth place in the Premier League, with Ralf Rangnick's stint as interim boss not working out as expected.
Ten Hag's preparations for the new season haven't been helped by the uncertainty over the future of Cristiano Ronaldo, who has reportedly asked to leave the club if a suitable offer is made. Ronaldo was given permission to miss the start of preseason training with United.
There is a packed preseason schedule for the Red Devils, though, which will give Ten Hag plenty of opportunities to assess his squad — and bed in any new signings.
Here is how their preseason is shaping up and who is in their squad.
Manchester United preseason squad list 2022
Ten Hag's tour squad contained much of the first-team group, although Phil Jones and Brandon Williams did not travel to Thailand due to injury concerns.
Tahith Chong, James Garner and Ethan Laird, who have all returned from loan spells, were in the travelling squad, as were academy prospects Alejandro Garnacho, Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage.
Andreas Pereira was left out prior to completing a transfer to Fulham.
New signings Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez have linked up with the squad for the trip to Norway ahead of the friendly with Atletico Madrid on July 30.
Why was Cristiano Ronaldo not on Man United's preseason tour?
Ronaldo was not in the 31-man United squad named on July 8.
The Portugal star has requested to leave the club, according to reports, with Chelsea, Barcelona and Bayern Munich said to be among the interested parties.
Ronaldo sat out training after being granted leave by United due to family reasons.
"Cristiano Ronaldo will not be in the party departing for Thailand as he has been granted additional time off to deal with a family issue," United said.

Manchester United preseason results 2022
Manchester United 3-1 Crystal Palace
United continued their unbeaten run in Australia with a convincing 3-1 win over Premier League side Crystal Palace with goals from Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho. Ten Hag will have been pleased with the manner of United's goals with plenty of counter-attacking and neat team moves undoing the Eagles' defence. David de Gea should have done better in stopping Joel Ward's header from the near post at a corner while defender Will Fish was also sent off.
1st Half: De Gea; Dalot, Lindelof, Maguire, Malacia; McTominay, Fred; Sancho, Fernandes, Rashford; Martial.
Manchester United 4-0 Liverpool
Erik ten Hag's first game in charge couldn't have gone much better with a convincing win over their fierce rivals in Thailand. Jadon Sancho scored the first goal of the Ten Hag era, before two quickfire goals from Fred and Martial made it 3-0 by half-time. Youngster Facundo Pellistri, who was introduced at half-time in place of Sancho, scored the fourth on an impressive showing for the Red Devils.
1st Half: De Gea, Shaw, Lindelof, Varane, Dalot, McTominay, Fred, Fernandes, Martial, Rashford, Sancho.
2nd Half: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Bailly, Telles, Malacia, Savage, Iqbal, Van de Beek, Pellistri, Amad, Elanga.
Melbourne Victory 1-4 Manchester United
United were given a bit of a shock by Tony Popovic's side, who took the lead after just five minutes when Chris Ikonomidis slotted past Tom Heaton.
After that, the Red Devils assumed control at Melbourne Cricket Ground, a deflected Scott McTominay strike and a close-range finish from Anthony Martial putting them ahead. A smart finish by Marcus Rashford and an own goal from Edmond Lupancu meant defeat for Victory, for whom former United winger Nani made his debut in the second half.
1st Half: Heaton, Dalot, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw, McTominay, Fred, Sancho, Fernandes, Elanga, Martial.
2nd Half: Heaton, Laird, Bailly, Telles, Malacia, Iqbal, Savage, Chong, Van de Beek, Diallo, Rashford.
Manchester United 2-2 Aston Villa
United's 100 per cent record in preseason was ended by Villa's late comeback in Perth. Jadon Sancho and a Matty Cash own goal put the Red Devils 2-0 up, but a strike from Leon Bailey and a late equaliser from Calum Chambers sealed the draw for Steven Gerrard's side.
1st Half: De Gea, Dalot, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw, Van de Beek, Fred, Fernandes, Sancho, Martial, Rashford.
2nd Half (after 67 minutes): De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Bailly, Varane, Malacia, Garner, Iqbal, Telles, Mejbri, Chong, Elanga.
Atletico Madrid 1-0 Manchester United
Ten Hag suffered his first loss as Man United manager with Joao Felix scoring a late winner for Atletico Madrid. Christian Eriksen made his debut for the Red Devils and impressed off the bench despite the result not going his side's way.
Starting XI: De Gea — Dalot, Maguire, Lindelof, Malacia — Fred, McTominay — Elanga, Fernandes, Rashford — Martial.
Manchester United 1-1 Rayo Vallecano
Ronaldo played his first game of preseason for the Red Devils but they were unable to claim a win. Amad Diallo put Ten Hag's men in front after half-time but Rayo Vallecano equalised through Alvaro Garcia.
Rayo's visit to Old Trafford was United's final warm-up game ahead of welcoming Brighton and Hove Albion to the Theatre of Dreams on August 7 in their first Premier League clash of 2022/23.
Starting XI: Heaton — Laird, Varane, Martinez, Telles — Garner, Van de Beek — Chong, Eriksen, Ferreyra — Ronaldo.
