Man City star confuses referee for Bernardo Silva in City’s new Oasis tribute kit image

Manchester City’s new Oasis-inspired kit caused a bit of confusion during their 0-0 Champions League draw with Inter Milan, with defender Manuel Akanji admitting he accidentally passed the ball to the linesman! Yes, you read that right – Akanji thought the referee was his teammate Bernardo Silva.

The fourth jersey, designed to celebrate Oasis’ 30th anniversary and the band’s deep connection to Manchester, debuted at the Etihad during City’s first Champions League game of the season.

While the "Definitely City" kit is a nod to the legendary Manchester band Oasis, it seems the strikingly similar colors made it a little too difficult to tell teammates and officials apart.

The kit that fooled Akanji

Speaking to beIN SPORTS after the game, Akanji admitted to his hilarious blunder. "I like it a lot," he said about the kit.

"But one action confused me – I thought the referee on the sideline was Bernardo, so I passed the ball to him. Otherwise, I love the kit and can’t wait to play more in it."

Despite the mix-up, City fans are excited about the unique kit, which celebrates the 30th anniversary of Oasis' debut album Definitely Maybe.

Noel Gallagher, one of the Gallagher brothers who front the band, expressed his excitement over the collaboration with Puma. "It’s a proper honour," he said. "When Puma approached us, I took about five seconds to agree."

The “Definitely City” kit will only be worn in select Champions League matches, so expect City’s stars to be back in their iconic sky blue for their Premier League clash against Arsenal on Sunday.
