ANFIELD, LIVERPOOL — Diogo Jota scored a 94th-minute winner as Liverpool saw off a spirited Tottenham comeback to win a remarkable Anfield encounter 4-3.
Spurs had only levelled things up in injury time, former Everton man Richarlison nodding in from a freekick to add to goals from Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.
The Brazilian's header had seemingly capped off an incredible fightback after the visitors had earlier found themselves 3-0 down just 15 minutes in thanks to Curtis Jones, Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah strikes.
However, there remained time for one more twist in the tale, Jota finishing coolly at the Kop end after Lucas Moura had gifted him the ball to move Liverpool up to fifth in the Premier League table.

Liverpool rediscovering winning habit
Liverpool's early season form and wins for Newcastle and Manchester United on Sunday means it's unlikely that they are playing for Champions League football any longer.
But the rest of this season is vital for one reason: it can be a springboard to greater things in the campaign that follows.
With that in mind, the Reds' recent run of four consecutive wins is a major positive as they look to build momentum, as is the manner of their victory today.
Winning games is a habit, and doing so late in games is as well. Klopp will hope that can sustain into 2023-24.
What a game of football, incredible. Liverpool's Champions League qualification hopes remain incredibly slim regardless, but this period is so important in terms of rediscovering the habit of winning and doing so in all sorts of different ways ahead of next season.

Reds' new system has its drawbacks
Liverpool's improved recent fortunes have of course coincided with a switch to a new system that gets Trent Alexander-Arnold on the ball as frequently as possible.
And he underlined the upside of that change today in laying on his sixth assist in five games since taking on a fresh role.
However, it is clear that there are also weaknesses exposed by this new setup, and Tottenham's three goals today underlined them.
Klopp's men have now conceded nine times at a rate of 1.8 per game since the German switched things up against Arsenal — that is surely not a route to sustained success.
Richarlison's poor luck continues
You have to feel for Tottenham striker Richarlison.
Having waited all season to score a Premier League goal for his new club, the former Everton man finally appeared to have grabbed a crucial one in equalising late against the Toffees' most hated rivals.
But his efforts were undone immediately by teammate Lucas Moura inadvertently laying on the winner for Jota with a loose pass into the Kop-end box.
Like so many of his Spurs teammates, the Brazilian will hope that better things await him once this forgettable campaign is over.

FULLTIME: It's all over and Liverpool have won one of the most bonkers games of football you are ever likely to see in your life.
Wow.
94th min: GOAL! I don't believe it, Liverpool have surely won it!!!!!!!!!!
It's a phenomenal finish from Jota, who latches onto the ball after a Lucas Moura mistake and lashes home a low, left-footed strike past Forster.
Incredible scenes at Anfield.

90th min (+1): Six minutes to be added on as Milner goes into the book for scything down Kane.
90th min: Tottenham absolutely going for it now, bringing in Lucas Moura and Arnaut Danjuma for Pedro Porro and Ivan Perisic.
There should be plenty of added time after that Skipp injury.
86th min: Richarlison claiming for a penalty after he is grappled in the box by Konate but VAR doesn't intervene.
Liverpool attempt to shore things up, bringing in Milner for Jones in midfield.
85th min: Richarlison now on for Skipp - can the former Everton man strike against Liverpool?
82nd min: Skipp now receiving treatment after being caught by a high boot from Jota, who gets a yellow card.
That looked a nasty one but no intervention from VAR and the booking stands.
77th min: GOAL! Tottenham on the brink of another remarkable comeback!!!
Son gets on the end of a Romero dink over the top and is the personification of composure as he slips it under Alisson to bring Spurs within a goal.

73rd min: Cody Gakpo's afternoon is over, he's replaced by Darwin Nunez in the centre-forward role after another good shift.
70th min: Konate sees a deserved yellow card for holding back Son as Tottenham looked to break - the Korean would no doubt have been onto the Kane pass that followed.
66th min: Now a change for Tottenham, Pape Sarr taking Dejan Kulusevski's place.
62nd min: Two changes for Liverpool now, with Jordan Henderson and Diogo Jota taking the places of Harvey Elliott and Luis Diaz respectively.
The Reds need some fresh legs after that wobble nearly handed the visitors a way back in.
54th min: Tottenham hit the post twice in quick succession!!!
The first one comes from Son, who cuts inside on his right foot and cracks a powerful effort off the upright. Romero then follows suit, poking a delicious Kane cross in behind onto the far post with Alisson well beaten.
Spurs are fully in this game.
52nd min: Son goes in the book for a cynical tug on Gakpo as the Dutchman attempted to break away.
46th min: The game is restarted. Can Spurs build on their strong finish to the second half?
HALFTIME: The whistle sounds after Tottenham clear a corner and that's the half.
Incredibly, Liverpool were hanging on in the close stages of that 45 minutes having cruised into a 3-0 lead so early. If the visitors keep it up after halftime then we really could have a game on our hands.
44th min: So close! Son controls a lofted ball over the top and cuts inside to smash one off the post with his left foot.
The flag goes up straight after but that looked very, very tight - difficult to say which way VAR would have gone on that one.
41st min: Liverpool almost give away another one, Kulusevski picking Robertson's pocket and then forcing a save from Alisson before Konate eventually clears.
What is going on!?
40th min: GOAL! A lifeline for Tottenham!
The visitors work it brilliantly down the left-hand side before Perisic leaves Van Dijk in a heap and coolly picks out Kane for a volleyed finish beyond Alisson.
Game on?

34th min: A brief break in play as Diaz receives treatment after taking a studs-up challenge from Skipp on the shin.
It didn't look great but the fact that Skipp had played the ball before what was an inadvertent coming together may have saved him from a VAR check there.
27th min: Liverpool just passing the ball around under zero pressure here and they look far likelier to find a fourth goal than Tottenham do a way back into the game.
To be fair to the Spurs fans in the away end, they have no stopped singing.
20th min: Signs of life from Spurs as Son scampers away down the left-hand side but his cross is straight into the hands of Alisson and Liverpool are right back on the front foot.
15th min: GOAL! Salah makes it 3-0 after just 15 minutes!
The Egyptian had missed the target entirely with his last two penalties but makes no mistake with this one, smashing it high into middle of the net.
14th min: PENALTY TO LIVERPOOL!
The Reds look in complete control as they pass the ball around the Spurs box probing for space and are rewarded when Romero inexplicably lunges in to upend Gakpo in the box and give away a spot-kick.
5th min: GOAL! Wow, Liverpool go 2-0 up with just five minutes played at Anfield!
It's far too easy, Salah finding acres to put Gakpo in behind where he pulls the ball back for Diaz to slide in and smash powerfully home.

KICKOFF: Under way at Anfield, with Tottenham attacking the Kop end first half.
10 mins from kickoff: Not in the Liverpool squad today, it looks a lot like Thiago Alcantara was limping as he made his way to the bench to watch the game.
Another injury worry for Jurgen Klopp.
30 mins from kickoff: All over in the day's earlier games and Newcastle have come from behind to beat Southampton 3-1, while Manchester United have secured a 1-0 win over Aston Villa.
It all means that Champions League football looks even less likely for Tottenham and Liverpool, but the winner of this game is set to finish the day in fifth place in the Premier League.
1 hour from kickoff: The team news is in, and it sees Luis Diaz, Harvey Elliott and Ibrahima Konate return to the Liverpool lineup.
Meanwhile, Tottenham boss Ryan Mason makes two changes, with Dejan Kulusevski and Ben Davies coming back into the team.
Scroll up to see both sides' starting XIs in their entirety.
1.5 hours from kickoff: One particularly interesting halftime score from across the Premier League as far as Liverpool and Tottenham are concerned, with Newcastle trailing Southampton 1-0 at St James' Park.
If the Magpies slip up today, these two sides might be forgiven for believing a late push for Champions League qualification is on the cards.
2 hours from kickoff: Hello and welcome to The Sporting News' live coverage of Liverpool's Premier League clash with Tottenham from Anfield.
Will we see more Mohamed Salah magic against Spurs like this special goal today?

Liverpool vs Tottenham lineups
Klopp makes three changes to his team as Ibrahima Konate, Luis Diaz and Harvey Elliott come back into the starting XI.
That means Joel Matip, Diogo Jota and Jordan Henderson only make the bench, with Thiago Alcantara missing out entirely.

Liverpool subs: Kelleher (GK), Gomez, Tsimikas, Milner, Henderson, Nunez, Jota, Carvalho, Matip
Tottenham's injury picture remains unchanged, as captain Hugo Lloris is still out, alongside full-back pair Emerson Royal and Ryan Sessegnon, with midfield duo Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma out for the season.
As a result, Fraser Forster continues as Lloris' back up, while Dejan Kulusevski takes the place of Richarlison and Ben Davies replaces Clement Lenglet.
Tottenham starting XI (3-4-3): Forster (GK) — Romero, Dier, Davies— Porro, Hojbjerg, Skipp, Perisic — Kulusevski, Kane, Son.
