Liverpool kept their dreams of a quadruple alive after beating Southampton 3-0 at Anfield in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

The Reds triumphed 1-0 over Chelsea after extra time in the Carabao Cup final last Sunday, Virgil van Dijk's goal ensuring Jurgen Klopp's final season in charge will end with at least one trophy to celebrate.

They will now face Manchester United in the quarterfinals of England's most famous cup competition after young striker Jayden Danns scored twice to secure what turned out to be a comfortable win against a side battling for promotion from the Championship.

Liverpool are still on course for a famously successful season, though. Sitting on top of the Premier League table after 26 games, Liverpool are also still alive in the UEFA Europa League and are among the favourites to win the FA Cup for the second time in three seasons.

This meeting with Saints was a more difficult task on paper than many might have thought, though. Klopp named a midfield three of Conor Bradley, Bobby Clark and James McConnell, highlighting both his faith in Liverpool's young crop of talents and also the injury crisis that has stripped the senior squad to the bare bones.

It was another teenager, Lewis Koumas, who broke the deadlock towards the end of the first half, cutting in from the left and drilling his shot back into the bottom corner at the near post, leaving goalkeeper Joe Lumley wrong-footed. The goal came 10 years after his father, Jason, scored his last in the competition.

Danns came off the bench to kill the contest in the final 15 minutes. His first goal was a clever chipped finish from a tight angle following Harvey Elliott's pass; his second was a typical poacher's finish, Lumely's save from Bradley giving the striker a simple tap-in.

Attention will now turn to the latest chapter of the Man United-Liverpool rivalry, which will take place over the weekend of March 16-17.
