Reeling from their resounding defeat to title challengers Arsenal, Liverpool look to pick themselves back up as they welcome Burnley to Anfield on Saturday.

The Reds saw control of their own destiny in the Premier League title race slip through their fingers with the loss, as Man City now hold the advantage as they sit two points back with a game in hand.

It was a comprehensive defeat for Liverpool, their first true 90-minute dud of the season to this point. They've been playing with fire all year long, sitting with the most points from losing positions of any Premier League side, but they had not been comprehensively bested like they were last time out.

Burnley remain under real threat of relegation, sitting 19th with a seven-point gap between themselves and safety. Their last-gasp comeback against Fulham last time out provided a confidence boost, but without a win in any competition since early December, they have to start picking up points in bunches to have any hope of remaining a top flight side next year.

Liverpool vs Burnley: best bet

  • Pick: Burnley +2 goal handicap
  • Odds: +110 (DraftKings)

Last time these two teams faced off, Burnley managed to keep a lid on the game in a 2-0 defeat, and were even unlucky not to get a goal themselves on nine shots worth 0.81 xG, unable to put a single one of those on target.

Jurgen Klopp has done a world-class managerial job this season ushering the Reds around their absolute deluge of injuries and keeping them firmly in the title race, but heavy minutes loads on important players are catching up with them. Muscle injuries to Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai are likely a result of their overuse compared to career averages, and while Andy Robertson is now back from his long-term absence, he will have some rust to shake off.

Liverpool's struggles against Arsenal could be the harbinger of a coming downturn, and while they should get by Burnley, it won't be as heavy a pummeling as the betting market is expecting.

Liverpool vs Burnley prop bet

  • Pick: Most goals in half — 1H
  • Odds: +195 (DraftKings)

Liverpool have been the best second-half team in the Premier League from an attacking perspective, but that has largely been a product of their need for comebacks at multiple stages, with the most points from losing positions of anyone in the EPL.

Burnley, however, are not built to put that to the test here. They have conceded the second-most expected goals of any Premier League side in the first half, only behind Sheffield United, and standing with the Blades far above anyone else. Meanwhile, they are the league's worst first-half attacking side in the Premier League, and thus Liverpool will be comfortable grabbing a solid lead before the break and sitting on it, just like they did in the reverse fixture, when the Reds picked up 14 shots worth 1.45 xG before halftime, and just five shots worth 0.36 xG after.
