Frank Lampard is doing a “great job” at Chelsea and cannot be questioned for having spent big in the latest transfer window as “good players are very expensive”, says Andriy Shevchenko.

After two windows of very little movement in west London, the arrivals lounge at Stamford Bridge has been seeing plenty of business.
Chelsea have invested heavily in talent and experience, with Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr added to their ranks.
There is the promise of more business to come before the next deadline passes, with Goal able to confirm that a £22 million ($29m) deal has been struck for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
Shevchenko is not surprised to see the Blues speculating to accumulate, with it clear that proven performers are required in order for an ambitious club to hit lofty targets.
The former Chelsea striker told BBC Sport: “It’s not about the money. Money helps, of course. We all know the good players are very expensive.
“Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, all these teams are looking to reinforce their squads. I think Chelsea did it right now because they want to compete, they want to win something.”
While the Blues have raised collective standards within their ranks, this summer's elaborate spending spree has seen expectations rise even further.
Lampard is under pressure to deliver, with Abramovich demanding an immediate return on his investment.
The Chelsea legend fared admirably during his debut campaign at the helm, overseeing a top-four finish and FA Cup final appearance, but is aware of the need to deliver tangible success.
Shevchenko believes a fan favourite from his playing days can rekindle former glories at Stamford Bridge, with the 42-year-old offering plenty of cause for optimism.
“I think he is doing a great job,” Shevchenko, who played alongside Lampard between 2006 and 2009, added.
“I like Frank, he is very professional, he picks out every detail.
“He can change system and try to adapt if something is not going right – he is ready to make a change. This means he has been working very hard with the players in training. I think he’s doing a great job.”
Lampard will see his tactical nous put to the test again on Sunday when Chelsea take in a home date with defending Premier League champions Liverpool.
