Mexico continues its World Cup preparations with a CONCACAF Nations League road match at Jamaica as it closes out its June slate of action.

El Tri has been choppy at best in through its summer schedule thus far, firing blanks against Uruguay and Ecuador in friendlies before a 3-0 win over Suriname in its Nations League opener. Veteran players like Raul Jimenez and Hector Herrera have performed below expectations, throwing fresh doubt into how Mexico will line up moving forward.

Head coach Gerardo "Tata" Martino has been under fire for the team's spotty performances in the lead-up to the 2022 World Cup, and a CONCACAF road test will be a good way to see if the team is progressing or if issues run deeper than initially believed.

For Jamaica, a team that did not qualify for the World Cup, the Nations League is a chance to continue building towards the next cycle. The first Nations League game, a road match at Suriname, put a dent in those hopes after a disappointing 1-1 draw, although the Reggae Boyz got back to winning ways at home in a 3-1 victory over the same team.

Jamaica vs. Mexico lineups

While Jamaica disappointingly drew with Suriname in its first CONCACAF Nations League match on the road, the reverse fixture at home produced a much better result. The turnaround was largely thanks to the return of Derby County midfielder Ravel Morrison who picked up a goal and assist in the home win.

The pair of Shamar Nicholson and Jamal Lowe were also brought into the fold for the second game, and the two combined for the third Jamaica goal. It remains to be seen whether head coach Paul Hall wishes to stick with that attacking pair or bring Leon Bailey back in.

Jamaica projected starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Knight (GK) — King, Lowe, Bell, Brown — Lambert, Williams, Morrison — Flemmings, Bailey, Nicholson.

Mexico's sputtering attack got back on the scoresheet in last week's Nations League opener against Suriname, but the victory was far from convincing.

Young Diego Lainez was among the bright spots, and it will be interesting to see if the usual super sub gets a second straight start. Conversely, Rodolfo Pizarro struggled and is likely to see the bench again with Orbelin Pineda and Uriel Antuna candidates to start.

Mexico projected starting lineup (4-3-3, left to right): Cota (GK) — Gallardo, Angulo, Cata Dominguez, Alvarez — Chavez, Romo, Nene Beltran — Pineda, Santi Gimenez, Antuna.

Jamaica vs. Mexico betting odds

Mexico is the clear favorite despite the recent struggles and the match being on enemy territory, but the odds swing still leaves some meat on the bone for Jamaica. A level result is also given a reasonable chance.

The game is expected to be cagey given Mexico's attacking difficulties and the venue location, with the total under heavily favored. Both teams are also not expected to score, although the "yes" result also has negative odds as the betting market isn't quite sure where to lean on that specific prop.
