The 2022/23 season ended with Manchester City clinching a trophy treble, including the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League titles, as part of a clean sweep for Pep Guardiola's team.

However, despite a busy end to the campaign, fans are already looking ahead to the 2023/24 Premier League season, with a confirmed start date of August 12, 2023.

The upcoming campaign will see a Premier League first, as Luton Town secured promotion for the first time, alongside the returning Burnley and Sheffield United.

The early weeks of the season will ensure a busy start to Premier League action, with Liverpool forced to play their first three matches away from home, due to a major redevelopment at Anfield.

When will the 2023/24 Premier League fixtures be revealed?

The Premier League fixtures for the 2023/24 season will be released on Thursday, June 15 at 9 a.m. BST (4 a.m. ET). All 380 matches will be released at this time, 17 days after the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

When will the 2022/23 Premier League start and finish?

The 2023/24 season is set to kick off on Saturday, August 12, but this could be adjusted to a Friday night start, on August 11.

The 2023/24 season will end on Sunday, May 19, which is slightly earlier than usual, due to the UEFA European Championships starting on June 14.

The mid-season break also returns this season during the festive period. No two rounds of matches will be played between Christmas and New Year within 48 hours of each other.

How are Premier League fixtures decided?

Despite the fan excitement surrounding the infamous 'fixture computer' springing up surprises for each season, the Premier League scheduling is more structured.

Within the scheduling plans, the Premier League are required to consider a host of variables, before releasing the final list.

Ahead of the allotting of Premier League games, schedulers input all FIFA/international windows, European club competitions and FA Cup/EFL Cup games, with the remaining slots reserved for Premier League action.

The fixtures are then separated into 'sequencing' with five match weeks built at a time.

Within each five-game block, teams get three home games and two away, with the process reversed for the second set.

Each club are placed into a 'pairing grid', which confirms home games, with fixtures then mixed randomly to finalise the details of each game.

This system prevents teams playing successive home or away games at the start or end of the season to avoid unfair disadvantages.

Rules surrounding broadcasting prevent an exact replication of fixtures in the second half of the season with game weeks 1 to 19 not repeated in 2024.

What rules are applied to the Premier League fixture list?

Alongside rules on avoiding 'bunching' of games at either end of the campaign, there are also requirements on certain dates.

Premier League restrictions on festive fixtures mean a team cannot play at home or away in both their Boxing Day and New Year's Day outings.

There are also security and planning criteria on games involving clubs from the same city, with Liverpool/Everton or Manchester City/Manchester United required to rotate between home fixtures, to avoid a 'doubling up' at home in one day.

With the second half of the campaign subject to changes, based on broadcasting and European/domestic cup requirements, clubs are involved in the planning process in the final stage of the season.
