Harry Kane stays at Tottenham: Twitter confirmation ends Manchester City transfer saga image

Harry Kane will be staying at Tottenham Hotspur after all. The club's star striker confirmed that he won't be making a transfer move this summer after he pushed for it prior to the Euros and Manchester City was also public about the club's interest in acquiring him.

With under a week left until the summer transfer window closes on August 31, it was believed that Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur still had time to work out a deal after the initial $140 million offer by Man City in July. But Kane's tweet brings an end to any deadline day intrigue.

Kane confirmed his decision on Twitter: "It was incredible to see the reception from the Spurs fans on Sunday and to read some of the messages of support I've had in the last few weeks. I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100% focused on helping the team achieve success. #COYS"

Prior to captaining England at Euro 2021, the 28-year-old Kane had expressed his desire to move to a club that could win trophies year in and year out, calling Tottenham a "rebuilding" club in an interview with Gary Neville of Sky Sports. The 28-year-old has yet to win a single piece of silverware at Spurs, but he still has three years left to run on his contract. He joined Spurs at the age of 11, came through the club's academy and it has been the only club he's ever known.

Man City's Kane quest falls short

Kane was Manchester City's top target this summer and now there's talk of the Premier League champions turning their attention to Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

Kane had always been Pep Guardiola's first choice to replace Sergio Aguero, who left Etihad Stadium in June before joining Barcelona, and City saw an opening bid of $140 million turned down by Spurs back in June. It was reported that the Manchester club submitted an improved offer, but it once again fell short of club chairman Daniel Levy's $206 million valuation.

Kane returned to action for Tottenham during their 1-0 win at Wolves in Matchday 2 of the English Premier League season, stepping off the bench for a 20-minute cameo after being left out of Nuno Espirito Santo's squad for the club's opening game of the season against City.

The England international will now be in line to make his first Premier League start under the Portuguese boss this Sunday, with a home fixture against newly-promoted Watford on the cards.
