Chivas center-back Oswaldo Alanis is set for a move to Getafe, the club's president confirmed Monday.
Speaking in an interview with Radio Marca, Angel Torres said the rumored move from Guadalajara to Madrid will be confirmed this summer.
"Yes, Alanis is one of the players who will play at Getafe. He was here with us last week and now he's gone on vacation," he said.
"We're moving in the market," he continued. "We're talking with six or seven players the manager has asked us for. Alanis has signed, and they've offered us (Spanish striker) Jaime Mata."
Getafe currently sits seventh in the table, in the final Europa League position, and manager Jose Bordalas is hoping to bolster his team with the idea of competing in Europe. With Alanis, a left-footed center-back, potentially on Mexico manager Juan Carlos Osorio's World Cup roster, his arrival in Spain could be delayed by a trip to Russia.
"The manager has asked us for five or six reinforcements, and we're working on that. Alanis is one of them who might go to the World Cup, and with that if we qualify for the Europa League it would be difficult for him to take part in the first part of that competition."
Alanis took part in the 2017 Confederations Cup with Mexico but has been a sporadic inclusion in subsequent El Tri squads. His chances at making the final roster improved when both Nestor Araujo and Carlos Salcedo required surgery after a March friendly against Croatia, but with Araujo back in training with Santos Laguna and Salcedo returning to the field for Eintracht Frankfurt this weekend.
Whenever he arrives at the club, it will be a welcome move for Alanis. The 29-year-old has spent his whole career in Mexico but badly wants to try his luck in Europe. Prior to the 2018 Clausura, he was held out of Chivas pre-season because of a dispute he had with the club's directors, who wanted him to sign a new deal with the team before being sold, as is common practice in Mexico.
The dispute was eventually resolved, with Alanis helping the Guadalajara side to a CONCACAF Champions League crown, though the team disappointed in the regular season with 15 points good only for second-to-last place.
