Former Ghana striker Tony Yeboah has released a statement denying reports in the local media of his passing in the United States.

The 51-year-old, who previously played for Leeds United in the Premier League in the 1990's, claims people who are behind such hoax must put a stop to it to avoid causing fear and panic.

“People behind those stories must stop it. It is not just me that they have done this to," Yeboah told Kasapa FM.

"Recently they did the same thing to Abedi Pele which was not nice. You don’t have to use social media for such vices. I am not even sick neither have I been to USA, so when I heard it, I was so surprised.

"My aunt saw it on social media and told me about it. I want to assure all those who have been worried by the news that it is not true. I am alive," he added.

Yeboah boasts of 59 national team appearances with the Black Stars and 29 goals.
