The 2022/23 FA Cup campaign is fast approaching the pointy end of the famous competition. The quarterfinal draw took place on Wednesday, March 1 and saw both Manchester clubs — the favorites to win the tournament — avoid one another in the final eight.

Both Manchester City and Manchester United were draw to host their single-elimination quarterfinal matchups. Man United welcome fellow Premier League side Fulham FC, while Man City destroyed Burnley, managed by their former captain Vincent Kompany.

Cinderella side Grimsby Town saw their run ended by Brighton & Hove Albion, who have never won the trophy in their club's history. It's been 84 years that Grimsby Town haven't reached this stage.

Meanwhile, Sheffield United overcame Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers in a thriller.

The Sporting News breaks down all you need to know about the FA Cup quarterfinals below.

Are there FA Cup quarter final replays?

The quarterfinal round of the 2022/23 FA Cup does not include replays. The previous round (Round of 16) was the first stage of this season's tournament that did not come with replays for drawn matches.

Replays have slowly been phased out of the FA Cup, beginning with the final and now including the Round of 16.

The English FA scrapped replays in the final in 1998/99, then one year later it did away with semifinal replays. It took a few years for the quarterfinal replays to be erased (2016/17), and the 5th Round (Round of 16) was the latest round to do away with replays in 2018/19.

In lieu of a replay, if teams are drawn after 90 minutes of their quarterfinal, they will head into 30 minutes of extra time, followed by a penalty shootout if necessary.

When was the FA Cup quarter final draw?
