Ghana midfielder Michael Essien is committed to seeing out his contract with Indonesian club Persib Bandung and could extend it ahead of the new season, according to his agent Amogou Mathieu.

The 35-year-old joined Persib from Panathinaikos in a one-year deal last March but has been linked with a shock exit recently, with several English Championship clubs and Chinese outfits believed to be among those interested in his services.

Essien, who made 29 appearances last season and scored one goal, has three months left on his contract but reports in Indonesia suggest he would not return to the country after the Christmas holidays but his agent has a different story.

"Michael Essien is certainly joining Persib again. He still has a contract until next year and something can be even done about it. Essien will be in Bandung and would go to Yogyakarta to join the team," said Mathieu, as quoted by Neutral News.

"Essien is not here because of money, but because Persib is good football club and Indonesia is very good country. The audience here is very good and the players are also good," he added.

Essien made over 250 appearances in all competitions during his time at Chelsea. He also had stints with Real Madrid and AC Milan.
