Barca sits comfortably atop the table, with a seven-point cushion over second-place Atletico Madrid. In third is Real Madrid, just two points behind city rival Atletico and nine points behind the Blaugrana.
The on-field distance between the two clubs who make up "El Clasico" was on full display in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday, as Madrid was thoroughly outclassed on home turf behind a pair of goals by Luis Suarez and an own goal from Raphael Varane. Recent history will not be on Madrid's side, however. Real's last win against its biggest rival came on Aug. 13, 2017, in the first leg of the 2017 Supercopa de Espana, with losses in four of the six ensuing matches — including Wednesday's one-sided affair.
