The EFL Trophy has reached the knockout stages in the 2022/23 season, featuring clubs from League One and League Two — the third and fourth tiers of English football.
Sixteen Under-21 teams from Premier League clubs were also involved when the group stage of the annual competition, called the Papa Johns Trophy for sponsorship reasons, began.
Holders Rotherham United, who beat Sutton United 4-2 after extra time in a dramatic final at Wembley Stadium in 2021/22, are not defending their title because they have been promoted to the Championship since their triumph.

The quarterfinal matches are scheduled to take place during the week commencing January 9, 2023. Exact dates and kickoff times were yet to be confirmed after the draw was made on December 15.
