Canada, joint-hosts of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, look to start the new cycle off on the right foot as they travel to Curacao to contest a CONCACAF Nations League group-stage match.

Canada failed to earn a single point in Qatar but impressed despite the lack of results, and they now look to build on those performances to generate a true return on the pitch over the next four years. While moral victories are somewhat easy to swallow now for the rising CONCACAF nation, 2026 will not be so kind, and they know they must translate positive performances into tangible victories.

Les Rouges are led by John Herdman, who has been linked with various jobs overseas thanks to Canada's recent rise but is signed through the 2026 World Cup, and to this point has not left for greener pastures.

Curacao, ranked 86th in the world by FIFA, picked up wins over Honduras, Suriname, and Aruba last year, and is gearing up for a daunting friendly matchup against 2022 World Cup champions Argentina just two days later.

Curacao vs Canada projected lineups & team news

Curacao have some veteran players who can navigate these kind of matches. Captain Cuco Martina is a savvy defender with Premier League experience at Everton and Southampton, currently at Dutch side NAC Breda. Meanwhile, starting goalkeeper Eloy Room is a 34-year-old veteran who currently starts for Columbus Crew in MLS.

Premier League fans will also recognize Leandro Bacuna, a defensive midfielder with Watford who has spent time in the English top flight. Leandro's younger brother Juninho Bacuna could start alongside in midfield, as the Birmingham City man has 15 international caps.

Curacao projected starting lineup (4-3-3): Room (GK) — Martina, Lachman, Gaari, Carmelia — L. Kuwas, L. Bacuna, J. Bacuna — Hooi, Janga, Gorre

The serious injury to goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau just prior to the World Cup sees him miss out on service for this international window. Other notable absences due to injury include midfielder Samuel Piette, winger Junior Hoilett, and striker Lucas Cavallini. Defender Kamal Miller has recovered from the injury that kept him out of the World Cup, but he will not join the squad until the home match against Honduras.

Forty-year-old captain Atiba Hutchinson has stated he will retire at the end of the club season but has been called into the squad for this international window. He is more likely to be deployed in Tuesday's fixture as a sentimental nod to service in front of the home fans, but he is unlikely to be handed the start here on the road.

While the 4-4-2 affords Herdman the best chance to fit his three attacking stars into the same lineup, he could choose something different to work young playmaker Ismael Kone into the attack.

Canada projected starting lineup (4-4-2): Borjan (GK) — Johnston, Vitoria, Kennedy, Adekugbe — L. Miller, Kaye, Eustaquio, Davies — David, Larin

Curacao vs Canada betting odds & lines

Canada are understandably tabbed as heavy favorites in the match after topping the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying table last cycle. However, their struggles at the World Cup see their odds not quite as overwhelming as one might expect against the 86th-ranked team in the world.

It's expected to be somewhat of a defensive battle, as the 2.5 goal total is nearly even-money despite the 1.5 goal spread, meaning Curacao are thought unlikely to score, while Canada are expected to do just enough to get the win.
