Real Madrid and Juventus crashed out of the Champions League Round of 16 on Friday, with Manchester City squashing the Spanish giants and Lyon edging their Italian foe.
Lyon advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time in a decade. Manchester City, meanwhile, continue their hunt for an elusive Champions League trophy.
Real Madrid were never really in contention in the second half of their 2-1 defeat at the Ethiad on Friday, unable to recover from the shock of a gifted back pass that Gabriel Jesus slotted past goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. The 4-2 aggregate result can be placed largely on the sloppiness manager Zinedine Zidane's side played with.
Juventus, however, maintained hope of a dramatic advancement to the very end Friday after two Cristiano Ronaldo goals brought them to the doorstep of the next round. Instead, Lyon preserved their away goal edge to sneak through.
