After an opening defeat against Argentina, Canada have the chance to get their Copa America challenge on track when they face Peru at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas.
Despite putting in a quality 90-minute performance against La Albiceleste in the tournament opener, Canada were ultimately punished for a few mistakes against the best team on the planet. Now, coach Jesse Marsch can turn the page to more beatable opponents as they match up against Peru in group play.
Les Rouges always knew the presence of Argentina eliminated any margin for error across the rest of their group-stage slate, and that has come to pass. It's likely that if Canada are to advance through to the knockout stage, they must not suffer any more defeats, and will probably need four points to make it through.
The draw between Peru and Chile in the other Group A opening matchup helps greatly, and now Canada can look to make headway by turning their good performances at major tournaments into tangible results.
Peru, meanwhile, are desperate for something to savor in competitive action. They sit bottom of CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying with just one goal scored across the first six matches, and it feels like consecutive semifinal appearances in the last two Copa America tournaments are miles in the rear view mirror.
Canada vs. Peru prediction, odds
- Moneyline lean: Canada (+120)
- Score prediction: Canada 2-0 Peru
This is the time for Canada to translate quality performances into legitimate results at a major tournament. They impressed many fans around the globe at the 2022 World Cup, but failed to secure a single point to go along with the strong showing.
If they are ever going to pick up a result, now is the time. Peru are a nightmare to play through, and they are defensively adept, but they present very little attacking prowess, and Canada should maintain most of the possession moving forward.
If Les Rouges can remain strong in defending against Peru's counter and take their chances up front, they should come away with a good win.

Canada vs. Peru best bet
- Pick: Peru to score — No
- Odds: +135 (Sports Interaction)
Peru have not been able to replace the aging Paulo Guerrero up front, and that lack of attacking talent has been on full display across the last few years.
The Blanquirroja have just one goal in six World Cup qualifying matches so far in this current cycle, and only got one goal from their two Copa America warmup friendlies against Paraguay and El Salvador before being blanked by Chile in their tournament opener.
Canada were somewhat open at the back against Argentina, but...yeah, it's Argentina! Against Peru, they should manage to keep a lid on the opponent, especially with the stout Maxime Crepeau in goal, who picked up a clean sheet against France in a warmup friendly.
Canada vs. Peru prop bet
- Pick: Alphonso Davies anytime goal scorer
- Odds: +475 (Sports Interaction)
Deployed at left-back under Jesse Marsch, Alphonso Davies is far from the first attacking option for Canada, but these are truly unbeatable odds for one of the team's most dangerous final-third performers.
Davies has 15 goals in 47 international caps, and has big-game experience, scoring against Croatia in a 4-1 defeat at the 2022 World Cup. Against Argentina, Davies had three shots, a very healthy total for someone at his position, and was strong in the counter-attack, which troubled the defending Copa America champions on a consistent basis.
At nearly 5/1 odds, this is a massive opening for the Canada captain to lead from the front.
