The Canada women's national team has secured a spot in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, but the North American power has not yet secured the top spot in Group B of the CONCACAF W Championships.

That first-place slot is up for grabs as Canada takes on Costa Rica in the final group stage match, with both teams already into the knockout round with two victories in two games. Both teams have scored seven goals in the process and not yet conceded a single time, so there's little to separate the two as of yet.

There's real stakes to winning Group B. The winner of this match is likely to avoid the top-ranked United States in the semifinals, with the loser likely to draw Vlatko Andonovski's powerhouse side before reaching the finals.

After a 6-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago that seemingly put Canada's continued offensive struggles to bed, the demons returned against Panama, with a 64th minute strike by Julia Grosso just enough to put Les Rouges through with three points. Still, Beverly Priestman will need to sort out the offense ahead of a decisive game against a solid defensive squad.

Canada vs. Panama projected lineups

Canada head coach Beverly Priestman has moved Janine Beckie between winger and full-back, and the team has been far more prolific with her up front in the attack. Still, moving Beckie back allows Priestman to fit more attacking players in the mix, with both Adriana Leon and Nichelle Prince starting against Panama.

Quinn was rested against Panama, but the 26-year-old midfielder remains a key cog of this Canada lineup and should return. Julia Grosso continues to earn minutes with her deadly attacking presence.

Jordyn Huitema has contributed up front in spurts, but remains behind the legendary Christine Sinclair both on the depth chart and in on-field production.

Canada starting lineup (4-3-3, left to right): Sheridan (GK) — Lawrence, Gilles, Buchanan, Riviere — Quinn, Scott, Fleming — Leon, Sinclair, Beckie.

Costa Rica's three-CB system has caused havoc for both opponents thus far, with both Panama and Trinidad & Tobago forced to foul consistently just to keep a lid on them. Even so, while Costa Rica generates attacking chances, they often find a way to finish them, converting exactly half their 32 shots into on-frame attempts thus far through the first two matches.

Head coach Amelia Valverde has named an unchanged side for the first two matches, and is likely to do the same against Canada with the team clicking well. 36-year-old Swiss Army knife Shirley Cruz has been deployed on both flanks, and she's joined by a wealth of experience across the field. Lixy RodriguezMelissa Herrera, and Cristin Granados all sport at least 47 international caps alongside Cruz's 91.

There's also exciting youth sprinkled into the lineup, with 20-year-old Priscila Chinchilla, who plays for Glasgow City in Scotland, deployed on the left flank opposite Cruz. The attack is spearheaded by 19-year-old Chievo Verona striker Maria Paula Salas who already has 23 caps at her young age.

Costa Rica starting lineup (3-4-3): Solera (GK) — Benavides, Villalobos, Coto — Chinchilla, Granados, Alvarado, Cruz — Rodriguez, Salas, Herrera.

Canada vs. Costa Rica betting odds & lines

Canada is a favorite for the Group B decider, but the odds are not be as lopsided as some we've seen in this CONCACAF W Championship tournament. The two sides have both performed at similar levels against similar opponents, leading the expectation of this match as a possible close finish.

While Canada remains a -525 favorite to defeat Costa Rica and top Group B, those odds pale in comparison to the -4000 given to the United States to defeat struggling hosts Mexico later in the evening. Some respect is given to Costa Rica for its bright tournament performance thus far, but there is still only one winner expected in this match.
