Junior Hoilett opened his account for Canada in Thursday's CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinal against Jamaica, but Octavio Zambrano's side ultimately fell 2-1 to the Caribbeans.

Canada opened the game brightly but Jamaica grabbed an early lead with its first shot on goal, setting the tone for the rest of the match. The second half mirrored the first, with the Canadians possessing the ball nicely. Romario Williams scored on a counterattack to give Jamaica the 2-0 lead in the 50th minute.

Hoilett cut the lead in half at the hour mark with a sublime hit from outside the Jamaican penalty area after weaving his way into the middle of the pitch. It looked like the 27-year-old had played himself into the path of a trio of defenders, but he stopped and unleashed a strike that Jamaican goalkeeper Andre Blake had no chance at saving.

The Canadians were understandably boosted by Hoilett's goal, and for the remainder of the game most of the play was in the Jamaican half.

However, it wasn't Canada's night as Jamaica held on to the lead to advance to the semifinals.
