Brazil will be without their second-highest goalscorer of all time when they face Switzerland at the 2022 FIFA World Cup after Neymar suffered ligament damage while becoming the most-fouled player on the pitch in their opener.

Neymar's absence will put more responsibility on Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison, who struck twice in 12 minutes to earn his nation a 2-0 win over Serbia.

The forward is not the only injury concern for the title favourites, while their Group G opponents have a relatively clean bill of health following their victory over Cameroon.

Below are the confirmed lineups for both teams.

Brazil coach Tite admitted he should have reacted more swiftly to the ankle injuries that have left him without Neymar and Danilo.

"I hadn't figured out how much Neymar was hurt but I subbed him off after finding out," Tite said. "I should have replaced him and Danilo earlier.

"We've already decided the starting players but we will only be communicating that right before the game. Football's about context and sometimes we have to be strategic. We have to think outside the box but we're very confident we have the right replacement."

Tite is wary of a Switzerland side who have won their past four competitive games, conceding twice and beating Portugal and Spain along the way.

"They're different from Serbia," he said. "They have very intelligent midfield and forward players. We can still play offensively but in a different manner."

Switzerland coach Murat Yakin was tempted to name an unchanged side and knows his team will have less space than they did against Cameroon.

"We focus on our strengths and know what we can do," he said. "We hope that we can get off to a good start and aggressively disrupt our opponents. We have players who are patient and can increase the tempo at the right moment. I think we're prepared."

Below are the confirmed starting lineups for both teams ahead of their match at Stadium 974 on Monday.

Brazil starting 11

(4-3-3, right to left): 1. Alisson (GK) — 14. Eder Militao, 4. Marquinhos, 3. Silva, 6. Alex Sandro — 8. Fred, 5. Casemiro, 7. Paqueta — 11. Raphinha, 9. Richarlison, 20. Vinicius Jr

Real Madrid's Eder Militao was preferred to former Barcelona fullback Dani Alves, who plays for Mexican club UNAM and will be 40 in May, to replace Danilo for Brazil.

Antony came on for Neymar and was in contention supplant him in the starting lineup but the Manchester United newcomer recovers from a reported bout of illness that is said to have forced him to miss training on Friday and Saturday, so United teammate Fred got the nod instead.

Goalkeeper Alisson and midfielder Lucas Paqueta were also said to have been affected on Friday before rejoining the group.

Switzerland starting 11

(4-2-3-1, right to left): 1. Sommer (GK) — 3. Widmer, 5. Akanji, 4. Elvedi 13. Rodriguez — 8. Freuler, 10. Xhaka — 25. Rieder, 15. Sow, 17. Vargas — 7. Embolo

Yakin indicated on Saturday that he had no plans to make significant changes to the system to counter Brazil's quality, and he largely kept faith with the side that beat Cameroon, Fabian Rieder replacing Xherdan Shaqiri on the right.

Yann Sommer ended any doubts over an ankle problem that had troubled him with his clean sheet against Cameroon. However, Noah Okafor has a thigh muscle injury and misses out.
