Biggest wins in Premier League history: Highest-scoring games & heaviest defeats as Newcastle crush Spurs

It was supposed to be a top-four clash when Tottenham visited Newcastle on April 23, 2023. After 20 minutes it looked far from it.

Newcastle United jumped out to a 5-0 lead after just 21 minutes, leading many to wonder whether the Magpies would come close to the all-time record for most lopsided Premier League victory.

Earlier in the 2022/23 season Liverpool crushed Bournemouth 9-0 to match the biggest win in Premier League history, matching the record margin of victory set by Manchester United (twice) and Leicester City.

Although the final result, and the method used to attain it, were historical in their own respect, matching the all-time record was not in the cards for the Magpies as the result finished 6-1, not even cracking the list of games with most goals.

The history of biggest Premier League victories follows below.

Biggest win margins in Premier League history

Here are the 21 matches that have featured the widest margin of victory in the Premier League since 1992/93.

It's notable that Manchester United have won 9-0 on two separate occasions, 26 years apart. Pep Guardiola's Manchester City have an 8-0 victory (2019) and 7-0 triumph (2021).
