Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has matched Alexis Sanchez’s Arsenal mark following his goal in the club’s 2-0 away defeat of Newcastle United on Sunday evening.
With his effort against the Magpies, the African striker has now scored in all three of his matches against Steve Bruce’s men in the 2020-21 season.
He is the first Arsenal player to score in three separate matches against an opponent in a single season since Sanchez versus Hull City in the 2014-15 campaign.
Additionally, the former Borussia Dortmund man has also scored in each of his last five appearances against Newcastle in all competitions, to become the first player from the North London side to score in five consecutive matches against the same team.
In the process, he is within touching distance of Olivier Giroud’s feat during his time at the Emirates Stadium.
Before joining Chelsea in 2018 for an undisclosed fee, the France international netted in six straight games against Aston Villa between 2013-2016.
Following back-to-back defeats against Everton and Villarreal, Mikel Arteta’s side travelled to St James' Park with the ambition of ending their poor results.
Five minutes into the game Mohamed Elneny put them ahead by volleying the ball into the bottom left corner of Martin Dubravka's net thanks to an assist from Aubameyang.
That was the Egypt international’s maiden effort in the English elite division since joining them from Swiss top-flight side Basel in 2016.
Interestingly, that was achieved in his 66th appearance for the 14-time FA Cup kings in the competition, with what was his 49th shot.
Of the 129 players to score for Arsenal in the Premier League, only five have had to wait longer for their first goal - Gael Clichy (110th appearance), Lee Dixon (95th appearance), Tony Adams (76th appearance), John Jensen (72nd appearance) and Emmanuel Eboue (71st appearance).
While Elneny was in action from start to finish against Bruce’s side, Aubameyang was substituted for Nicholas Pepe with 12 minutes left to play.
For Ghana’s Thomas Partey, he was introduced in place of Real Madrid loanee Martin Odegaard in the 85th minute.
This result moves the Gunners up to ninth on the table and they will now turn their attention back to the Europa League, as they welcome Villarreal in their semi-final second leg.
Newcastle United remain 17th, nine points above the relegation zone and they face Leicester City next time out.
