Arsenal vs. Chelsea results: Highlights from Chelsea's dominant 2019 Europa final win image

Just because Chelsea entered Wednesday's Europa League final against Arsenal without much on the line did not mean the Blues would not be motivated to beat their London rivals. The Gunners needed a victory in Baku, Azerbaijan, in order to qualify for next year's Champions League. Chelsea, already qualified for next season's UCL play, could love nothing more than to keep Arsenal away from such glory.

That's exactly what Chelsea did with its 4-1 victory.

It was a bit of a surprising result considering the injuries that struck the third-place Premier league finishers in the weeks leading up to Wednesday's match. Star midfielder N'Golo Kante was considered questionable for the Europa League final with a bad knee, but he was cleared for the lineup just before the match. However, another Chelsea midfielder in Ruben Loftus-Cheek was out with a torn Achilles. The good news for Chelsea: Eden Hazard was the best player on the pitch in what might be his last game in blue.

The location of Wednesday's Europa League final, almost 3,000 miles from London, was inconvenient for both clubs, which are located roughly 10 miles apart. But it was worse for Arsenal, because Henrikh Mkhitaryan did not make the trip with his club due to safety concerns. The Armenian's home country is still at war with the neighboring Azerbaijan.

Chelsea registered its fifth major UEFA European competition final victory, with only Liverpool winning more among English clubs (eight). Arsenal conceded four goals in a European match for the first time since its 1-5 loss to Bayern Munich in March of 2017, and it became the first team to do so in a UEFA Cup/Europa League final since Middlesbrough lost 4-0 to Sevilla in the 2006 UEFA Cup final.
