The CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers return this week and one of the highlights of this latest round of matches is Argentina hosting Chile at Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires.

The reigning world and South American champions are clear favourites to win with the oddsmakers and were victorious when these sides last met, Lautaro Martinez scoring a late winner in a 1-0 triumph in the Copa America group stage.

Lionel Scaloni's side sit comfortably top of the CONMEBOL standings, with five wins from their first six games putting them in a strong position to qualify for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. Chile, meanwhile, are facing a battle to join them at the expanded finals, having taken only five points from six matches. Only Bolivia and Peru are below them in the 10-team standings.

The Sporting News looks at the latest odds and predictions for this fixture.

Argentina vs. Chile prediction, odds

  • Moneyline lean: Argentina (-275)
  • Score prediction: Argentina 2-0 Chile

Even without Lionel Messi, Argentina are logical favourites to win against a struggling Chilean side. With that in mind, it makes sense to add different selections to find more appealing odds.

Argentina to win to nil is priced at -105 with BetMGM, which is a better option than simply backing a home victory.

Similarly, there could be value in backing a low-scoring game: the Albiceleste have failed to score more than once in their past two home games against Chile in World Cup qualifying, and they didn't manage to do so in their most recent Copa America clash.

Argentina vs. Chile best bet

  • Pick: Argentina to win and Chile not to score
  • Odds: -105 (BetMGM)

Argentina only conceded one goal at the Copa America — in the 1-1 quarterfinal draw with Ecuador — and won each of their other six matches. Likewise, in World Cup qualifying, all five of their wins to date have come without allowing their opponents a goal.

Chile, meanwhile, have only scored three times in 2026 World Cup qualifiers and failed to find the net once at the Copa America. This feels like an easy selection.
