GAME PREVIEW

Jose Mourinho Manchester United

Jose Mourinho's record in his second season at the clubs he has managed is quite something.

Every time the Portuguese coach has stayed for a second year - at Porto, Chelsea (twice), Inter and Real Madrid - it has produced a league title.

It is hard to argue that toppling Barcelona during his time with Madrid, which took a 100-point campaign in which multiple records were broken, was not the toughest challenge of Mourinho's career to date but keeping that second-season run going with Manchester United might rank next.

United will undoubtedly be a better side for the additions of Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic and that they have pursued Victor Lindelof for so long suggests there is plenty the manager likes about his new centre-back.

Having held on to David de Gea and added Eric Bailly and Paul Pogba last summer, the spine of the side looks extremely robust.

That combination of quality and physicality should make United a daunting team to play against but where they came undone last term was their inability to make their best football count on the scoresheet.

That must change and that there is a more youthful and dynamic feel to their attack this season bodes well.
