Manchester United are considering a change of strategy over Harry Maguire and could now sell their former captain in January.
Maguire looked set leave the Red Devils over the summer, amid Premier League transfer interest in the England international, with his place at United increasingly uncertain.
The arrival of Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich pushed Maguire further down the pecking order with his contract expiring at the end of the 2024/25 season.

Harry Maguire's Man United contract
Maguire's contract expires next June and, despite his £200,000 ($263,000) weekly salary, United were previously rumoured to be considering a plan to offer a 12-month extension
The key reason behind that idea was based on the club's desire to avoid Maguire leaving on a free transfer next summer, as they want to recoup a fee for the 31-year-old, after paying £80m ($105m) to sign him from Leicester City in 2019.
Harry Maguire's transfer value
United are pragmatic over the situation and the club realise they will not bring in the £30m ($40m) they aimed for ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Maguire's expiring contract means January is their final opportunity to bring in a transfer fee, as the centre-back will be a free agent in June, with reports from the Daily Star claiming the threshold could be as low as £10m ($13m).
If no suitable offers arrive at Old Trafford for Maguire, United could still activate his contract extension clause, and pitch for offers ahead of next season.
