The U.S. Open will crown a new men's champion with Stan Wawrinka out this year. Meanwhile, Angelique Kerber will attempt to repeat her 2016 run in one of the most exciting events in tennis.

Injuries have plagued the men's bracket with not only Wawrinka (hip surgery) out, but also Milos Raonic (wrist) and Novak Djokovic (elbow). Also of note, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are in the same half of the draw.

Kerber has made the Round of 16 in two of her last three Grand Slam appearances, but has yet to reach the finals of an event since April. She enters the year's final Grand Slam as the sixth seed — placed in the same half of the draw as No. 4 seed Elina Svitolina. Svitolina has six victories in their 11 matchups, including all three showdowns this season.
