The World Aquatics Championships are typically viewed as a key stop on the road to the Olympics, but several high-profile athletes won't be in attendance for this year's meet.

After the COVID-19 pandemic threw the calendar into chaos, the world championships were moved to February, less than six months before the start of the Paris Olympics. Top American swimmers like Katie Ledecky and Lilly King elected to skip the meet and focus on preparing for the 2024 Games.

Still, there will be some notable names jumping into the pool. Nine-time world medalist Kate Douglass doesn't believe making the trip to Doha, Qatar, will be "detrimental to my training."

"I kind of thought it just would be a good opportunity to go have a cool experience in Doha and also get a lot of racing practice in because obviously I'll be doing a lot of races, and I think that will be a good thing to kind of show myself that I can do a bunch of races," Douglass said.

"It's a long meet, and I think it could be a good confidence booster."

Here is everything you need to know about the World Aquatics Championships, including a full schedule of events.
