The Dallas Stars have announced that the American Airlines Center will be the official site of the 2018 NHL Draft, which will be held on June 22-23.

It will be the first time since the draft’s inception that Dallas will host the annual event.

On Thursday, Dallas mayor Mike Rawlings foreshadowed that he, along with the Stars, will make a major announcement at the Stars’ “Reunion Lawn Party”, on Saturday. The cryptic clue left many to wonder what exactly the announcement would consist of.

With Rawlings by his side, deputy commissioner Billy Daly notified the sea of Stars fans that their hometown team will officially have the opportunity to host the NHL Draft. According to Rawlings, the NHL Draft will generate roughly $14 million for the city of Dallas.

At the 2017 NHL Draft, the Stars selected defenceman Miro Heiskanen with the No. 3 overall pick and goaltender Jake Oettinger at No. 26.
