Denis Shapovalov overcame a 7-6 first-set loss to Jan Satral of the Czech Republic and reeled off a 6-1, 6-3 comeback to make it into next week's U.S. Open. The world's 69th player, Shapovalov will take the court in the season's last major against Daniil Medvedev of Russia on Monday afternoon.

He joins Eugenie Bouchard and Vasek Pospisil as the only Canadians in this year's singles field. She will face Evgeniya Rodina of Russia while Pospisil will take on Spain's Fernando Verdasco in the first round.
Shapovalov is coming off of an impressive run at the Rogers Cup earlier this month. He upset the top-seeded Rafael Nadal and advanced all the way to the tournament’s semifinal round before falling to eventual champion Alexander Zverev. Shapovalov also topped veterans Rogério Dutra da Silva, Juan Martín del Potro and Adrian Mannarino at the Cup.

Shapovalov said his ultimate career goals have not changed following his run at the Rogers Cup.
"It's tough to talk about a ceiling," Shapovalov said on a conference call last week. "It's the future — nobody can predict it — but for me the goal I would like to have is to lift a Grand Slam. That would be just ridiculous for me. I know what it would be to be No. 1 in the world. It's too tough to think about what I can achieve."
In his only other grand slam, Shapovalov lost his opener in this year's Wimbledon competition, which he got in as a wildcard.
