If Andre De Grasse is going to take the mantle of World's Fastest Man from Usain Bolt, he'll have to wait until after the Jamaican is retired.

The 22-year-old Canadian sprinter suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain in training on Monday, according to agent Paul Doyle. That will keep De Grasse out of a highly-anticipated showdown with Bolt that would have seen the two go head-to-head after a brewing drama between the two sprint stars.

"I can confirm that Andre is out for the remainder of the season," Doyle told The Jamaica Gleaner on Wednesday.

De Grasse had been expected to challenge Bolt in Saturday's 100-metre event, which is set to the be Jamaican's final major race at that distance. Bolt has said he is retiring this year, and De Grasse has been open about wanting to beat the 30-year-old before he walks away from the sport.

"The entire year this 100m race in London was my focus. I am really in the best shape of my life and was looking forward to competing against the best in the world. To not have this opportunity is unimaginable to me but it is the reality I am faced with. I am sad to miss this chance but I am young and will be back and better than ever in the near future," De Grasse said in a statement released by Doyle.
