After Thursday's 5-3 win, Toronto hoped to extend its winning streak into the Windy City.

That didn't quite happen.

The Cubs jumped to an early lead, and fended off a late Toronto run to win 7-4, winning the first game in the three game series.

Steve Pearce got the Blue Jays rolling in the first inning, hitting in a run on a single. However, Chicago picked up right away in the second inning, scoring three. They then added two more in the fifth inning thanks to a single from Anthony Rizzo.

It seemed as though the Cubs would cruise to an easy win, up 5-1. However, Toronto found its offense in the eighth inning. Kevin Pillar hit a double to score one, and then Ryan Goins drilled in two more on a single to make it a one-run contest.

In the bottom of the inning, though, Javier Baez responded. The shortstop hit a two-run homer over the left field wall to give the Cubs some room. Chicago then grabbed three quick outs in the ninth inning to end the game, giving them the three-run win.

Toronto and Chicago will face off again tomorrow afternoon, and conclude the series on Sunday.
