Roy Rana will be the head coach of Canada's senior men's national team. Rana is currently the head coach at Ryerson University in Toronto, a post he has held since 2009.

"Following a successful selection camp, we're pleased to announce the players that will represent Canada at the upcoming FIBA AmeriCup 2017 as we begin our journey towards a berth in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019," Rana said in a statement. "This tournament is an opportunity for our players to earn some important international experience as we compete for an Americas Championship and beyond."

The team, made up of 12 Canadians playing in professional leagues all over the world, is currently practicing in Toronto before it heads to Argentina one day before its first scheduled game.

The games will take place from Aug. 25 to Sept. 3. The opening games will be held in Bahia Blanca, Argentina, Montevideo, Uruguay, and Medellin, Colombia. The finals will take place in Cordoba, Argentina.

Canada is in Group B in the tournament along with the United States Virgin Islands, Argentina and Venezuela. Brazil, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Colombia make up Group A, and the United States, Dominican Republic, Panama and Uraguay make up Group C. The top team from each group, along with Argentina, will advance to the Final Phase.

"The FIBA AmeriCup 2017 will be a great first step for our program towards our ultimate goal of qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games," Jay Triano, the national team program head coach, said. "While we are focused on winning every time we step out on the court, the AmeriCup provides our coaching staff with a valuable opportunity to evaluate our talent pool prior to the start of the qualification process in November."

Canada is currently ranked No. 8 among teams in North and South America.
