The Charlotte Observer reporter to whom Panthers quarterback Cam Newton directed a sexist comment Wednesday has apologized for racially offensive tweets from 2012 and 2013 unearthed by a Twitter user.
"There is no excuse for these tweets and the sentiment behind them. I am deeply sorry and apologize," Jourdan Rodrigue said in a written apology.
The Twitter user Wednesday night replied to Rodrigue's tweet that referenced Newton's comment with a screen shot of her older tweets.

Newton on Wednesday, before answering a question from Rodrigue about wide receiver Devin Funchess and the routes he runs, said, "It's funny to hear a female talk about routes like that. It's funny."
