Bianca Andreescu outlasted Italy's Camila Giorgi to advance from the Round of 32 at the Citi Open on Monday.
The 17-year-old Canadian dropped the first set 7-5 to her more experienced opponent before winning the next two sets 6-3 and 6-4. In the process, Andreescu became the youngest Canadian in nearly thirty years to taste victory in the main draw of a WTA event.

Andreescu was the sole successful Canadian in the singles draws on Monday, with Francoise Abanda losing in straight sets (6-4, 6-4) to Julia Goerges of Germany. On the men's side, Vasek Pospisil won the opening set before dropping the next two to Switzerland's Henri Laaksonen.

Canada's top-ranked women's player, Genie Bouchard, takes on American Cristina McHale in the Round of 32 stage on Tuesday, while world No. 10 Milos Raonic of Thornhill, Ont., begins his tournament on Wednesday against Frenchman Nicolas Mahut.
