Adam Hadwin's history-making year continues.

After becoming just the eighth player in PGA Tour history to break 60 when he shot a 59 at January's CareerBuilder Challenge in California, the Saskatchewan-born Hadwin followed that up by winning his first tournament on the circuit — the Valspar Championship in Palm Harbor, Florida — in March.

Now, the 29-year-old heads to the British Open for the first time.

Hadwin will fly the flag as one of two Canadian representatives in the tournament, which started Thursday morning at Royal Birkdale. He teed off as part of a group that also includes England's Adam Johnston and Todd Hamilton of the U.S.

Joining Hadwin at the Open is fellow Canuck Austin Connelly.

The 20-year-old Texas-born Connelly has dual citizenship through his father and represented Canada at the Pan Am Games in 2015, tying himself internationally to the Great White North until at least 2019. Connelly, also making his British Open debut, is grouped with Matthew Griffin (Australia) and Matthew Southgate (England).
