Beijing is 13 hours ahead of Eastern time. Most of the live games will take place at night or in the middle of the night for American viewers.
How much did the Olympics cost?
The 2022 Winter Olympic cost for Beijing was much lower than recent years. Their budget reached $3.9 billion, which compares to the $40 billion budget Beijing had in 2008 for the Summer Olympics. Most of the budget decreased since they were able to reuse some of the venues, and part of that is also due to the limited fans in attendance.
By comparison, the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics cost $12.9 billion.
Olympic villages
Each of the three cities have separate Olympic villages. The ice sport athletes will be housed in Beijing Olympic Village, which will have around 2,300 beds in total. When the games end, these apartments will become public housing for rent.
The Yanqing village is set to mimic a mountain village, and it will host around 1,430 athletes and officials. The Zhangjiakou village hosts the most athletes and officials, around 2,640.
