Canada will continue its quest for a gold medal on Wednesday, but for it to move on to the semifinals, it will have to beat the team it faced in its most recent gold-medal matchup.

The last time Canada won gold, the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, it faced off against Sweden and won 3-0. That's in the cards again in Beijing as Team Canada faces Team Sweden in a matchup of the No. 5 vs. No. 4 seeds, respectively.

Sweden is coming off a bye earned due to a tiebreaker with Canada. Both finished the group stage with a record of 2-1, but because Sweden's lone loss came in overtime, it earned the fourth bye, while Canada had to beat China on Tuesday to advance, which it did in a 7-2 victory.

The two teams did not face off against one another in the group stage, but Canada has the edge in goal differential, having outscored its three opponents 12-5, while Sweden had just a 10-7 edge in its games.

The winner of the matchup will move on to face either Finland, which defeated Sweden in overtime, or Switzerland in the semifinals. That quarterfinal matchup starts at 3:40 a.m. ET on Wednesday.
