World Juniors scores today: Updated results, schedule for IIHF hockey games on Jan. 5, 2024 image

The 2024 World Juniors are officially underway from Gothenburg, Sweden. 

The annual IIHF tournament is a chance for the best U20 prospects from around the globe to compete on what is very likely the biggest stage of their young playing careers. In addition, it's an opportunity to bring a gold medal to their home country. 

In the group stage, the clubs are split into two groups of five, competing in four round-robin games before the top eight teams advance to the knockout stage. From overtime thrillers to stunning upsets, the preliminary round never disappoints, and the 2024 edition of the event should be no different. 

The tournament concludes action on Friday, with the Czechia vs. Finlnad bronze medal game first before the gold medal game between the USA and Sweden wraps up the World Juniors.

How to watch World Juniors games on TV, live stream

TSN and the NHL Network will once again be home to all of the action for the 2024 World Juniors.

Canadian viewers can watch the competition on TSN or can stream the games through TSN.ca or on the TSN app. 

The American audience can view the games live on TV on the NHL Network, or can stream them through Fubo, which offers a free trial.

Heading into the tournament, it is a four-horse race between USA, Canada, Sweden and Finland for gold, according to the oddsmakers.

Teams will play four preliminary games in a round-robin format within their group, followed by a three-round playoff.

In the group stage, teams earn three points for a regulation win, two points for an overtime win, one point for an overtime loss and no points for a regulation loss.

The top four teams from each group advance to the quarterfinals, where the matchups are determined by seeding. They will cross over between groups for these games: 1A vs. 4B, 1B vs. 4A, 2A vs. 3B and 2B vs. 3A. The teams that advance to the semifinals will be reseeded. 

The winners of the semifinals will face off in the gold medal game. The losers will play for bronze.
