An arbitrator has awarded Jacob Trouba a one-year, $5.5 million contract, the Winnipeg Jets announced Sunday.

Trouba's arbitration hearing was a "marathon affair" that lasted nearly six hours, according to Winnipeg Free Press reporter Mike McIntyre. Multiple reports said the defenceman was seeking a $7 million contract for the 2018-19 season, while the Jets were offering $4 million. In the end, Trouba's salary will fall halfway between the player and team's expectations.

The Jets have 48 hours to decide whether to accept the ruling or allow Trouba to become an unrestricted free agent, but the team is reportedly expected to accept the terms of the arbitration.

Trouba, 24, racked up 24 points (three goals, 21 assists) and was a plus-9 in 55 regular season games for Winnipeg last season.
