The NHL season is in full swing heading into the second week of October.

As usual, Saturday night means a Canadian-heavy schedule. The Maple Leafs, Jets, Canadiens, Flames and Canucks are all in action as Hockey Night in Canada takes centre stage across the country once again.

The Wraparound: Oilers' James Neal back to being 'The Real Deal' in NHL's opening week

The early games see the Toronto Maple Leafs visiting the Detroit Red Wings, while the Winnipeg Jets face the Blackhawks in Chicago and the Montreal Canadiens host the St. Louis Blues. In the 10 p.m. ET timeslot, the Flames are in Las Vegas to take on the Golden Knights and Vancouver hosts Philadelphia.

While it's still very early in the season, these games could help set the tone as several of the teams consider themselves Stanley Cup contenders.

Who plays on Hockey Night in Canada tonight?

  • Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Detroit Red Wings
  • Puck drop: 7:00 p.m. ET

It's an Original Six matchup as the Leafs travel down the 401 to face the Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena.

Toronto has dropped its last two games — including a humiliating 7-3 loss to Tampa Bay on Thursday — after starting 2-0-1, while Detroit has surprised many by getting off to a 3-1-0 start and climbing to second place in the Atlantic Division.

  • Winnipeg Jets vs. Chicago Blackhawks
  • Puck drop: 7:00 p.m. ET

Central Division foes renew hostilities as the Jets travel to Illinois in search of a third-straight victory.

Chicago has lost both of its first two games and will desperately be looking to get into the win column on home ice.

  • St. Louis Blues vs. Montreal Canadiens
  • Puck drop: 7:00 p.m. ET

The defending Stanley Cup champions are showing no signs of slowing down as the Blues have started 3-0-1 in their first four games of the young season and already sit atop the Central Division.

Meanwhile, the Canadiens have had a so-so start to their campaign, with their most recent outing a 4-2 loss to division-rival Detroit.

  • Calgary Flames at Vegas Golden Knights
  • Puck drop: 10:00 p.m. ET

It's third vs. fourth in the Pacific Division as the Flames head to Sin City in search of some good luck.

Calgary outlasted Dallas in a 3-2 shootout victory on Thursday and will face a Vegas team coming off the wrong end of a 4-1 scoreline against Arizona.

  • Philadelphia Flyers vs. Vancouver Canucks
  • Puck drop: 10:00 p.m. ET

The Flyers bring their perfect (2-0) record to the west coast to take on the Canucks, who aim to get back to .500 after a 1-2-0 start to the season.

Vancouver will be buoyed by its most recent performance, an 8-2 domination of the Los Angeles Kings during the Canucks' 50th home opener on Wednesday.
