Greatness runs in the family.

It's been a while since Wayne Gretzky was hoisting the Stanley Cup or wreaking havoc on the ice. Now the well-dressed NHL legend is tasked with bestowing all that hockey knowledge onto the fan watching at home on TNT.

While everyone knows him for his time on skates or for his work behind the microphone, who does "The Great One" celebrate the holidays with? Go out to dinner with? Sit around and watch movies with?

The Sporting News takes you inside the impressive Gretzky family tree.

Wayne Gretzky family tree

When it comes to trees, we always have to start at the roots before branching out.

Wayne Gretzky is the foundation of this tree, spending 20 years in the NHL and compiling a laundry list of accomplishments — four-time Stanley Cup winner, nine-time Hart Trophy winner, playing in 1,487 games, scoring 894 goals, assisting on 1,963 more, totaling 2,857 points and of course, being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame among plenty of other accomplishments.

But that was just his life on the ice. Several family members are well-known in their own right.

Wayne Gretzky's wife: Janet Gretzky

In 1988 Gretzky married actress and dancer Janet Jones, who would later change her name to reflect their marriage. She is best known for her entertainment career, once appearing as a contestant on "Dance Fever" in 1979 — while also performing in "Staying Alive," "The Flamingo Kid," "American Anthem," "A League of Their Own" and more.

Wayne Gretzky's son: Ty Gretzky

Ty, the couple's oldest son — born July 9, 1990 — tried playing hockey at a young age, but the pressure of living up to his father became too great. Gretzky's son, and the team, never had names on the back of their jerseys, but it didn't stop the heckling. Once he finished playing at Shattuck St. Mary's, he opted to walk away from the game and forge his own path. He eventually obtained a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Arizona State University. Gretzky founded Gretzky Hockey School in Idaho in 2014 to stay involved with the sport. He married his wife, Sara, on Feb. 29, 2020.

Wayne Gretzky's son: Trevor Gretzky

Trevor Gretzky was born on Sept. 14, 1992 and has dabbled in acting and producing. However, he was also selected by the Chicago Cubs in 7th round of the 2011 MLB Draft, but ended up playing over in Canada following an unsuccessful stint in the minor leagues. He also has 12 acting credits, most notably being in "Spiral," "Mile 22" and "Apex."

Wayne Gretzky's son: Tristan Gretzky

Tristan Gretzky was born on Aug. 2, 2000 and is best known for being a golfer and actor. Gretzky joined the Pepperdine University golf team in 2019 — his only season with the team. Outside of golfing, Gretzky is also credited with appearing in the 2006 film, "Two Tickets to Paradise."

Wayne Gretzky's daughter: Emma Gretzky

Gretzky's youngest daughter, Emma, was born March 28, 2003. Like most of the family, she too has begun carving out a career in acting. Her biggest role thus far is starring in "Palo Alto," which was a teen drama film. In addition to acting, Gretzky also played tennis.

Wayne Gretzky's daughter: Paulina Gretzky

The oldest Gretzky child, Paulina, was born Dec. 19, 1988 and is, unsurprisingly, also in the entertainment business. Her acting career includes credits for "Grown Ups 2," "Fame," "Guns, Girls and Gambling" and "In God We Trust." While successful in her own right, Paulina also brought some more fame into the family by marrying star golfer, Dustin Johnson.

Wayne Gretzky's son-in-law: Dustin Johnson

In 2022, one of the best golfers in the world joined one of the elite hockey families when Dustin Johnson married Paulina Gretzky. The couple originally started dating in 2013. They have two children — Tatum and River. Dustin and Paulina were fixtures at PGA events, with Johnson even climbing to the world's No. 1 in Feb. 2017. The two-time major and 24-time PGA event winner made headlines in June 2022 when he left the PGA Tour to join the upstart LIV Golf Tour.
