We are still a few weeks away from the NHL trade deadline, but the Rangers have already made one of the biggest splashes.

The Rangers acquired Blues All-Star winger Vladimir Tarasenko yesterday in the second big move made well in advance of the March 3 deadline. The addition immediately gives New York the first-line right winger it has been looking for.

By trading for the forward now, the Rangers get roughly 11 more games out of Tarasenko than if they were to have gotten him on deadline day. With New York in the middle of a highly competitive Metropolitan Division, it gives the team an added edge over others in the division.

The Rangers play their first game following the trade deadline on Friday against the Kraken. Will Tarasenko be available to play? Here's the latest on his status.

Tarasenko is wasting no time getting into a Rangers uniform and on the ice with the team.

One day after getting traded, Tarasenko will join the Rangers for their game against the Kraken Friday. Both he, along with defenseman Niko Mikkola, are expected to play, according to Rangers GM Chris Drury.
